Missy was life chained as a puppyhood. She was thankfully relinquished at approximately 1 year of age.
Suffering from flystrike due to living in urine-soaked soil and no faeces pick up with in her chain length.
Her chain had started to become embedded into her skin causing further suffering.
Missy finally found the most loving and caring forever home. Her owners tell us "They feel privileged to be able to give Missy the life she deserves.
Marley was life chained as a young puppy in South Auckland for eight long years. Someone saw his dire situation and reached out.
He was suffering from a major long-term untreated fungal infection. His skin and ears were the worst affected, his leg joints were all heavily calloused.
Marley was eventually relinquished to Chained Dog Awareness NZ and has not looked back. He has lived his best life since, cared for by his loving dad.
Sadly, Marley has recently passed away. We are forever thankful to his dad for the kindness and happiness he showed Marley in his final years.
Billy avoided being another pound statistic when the amazing vet staff at an after-hours clinic who yelled out late at night for help.
Billy spent six weeks in a foster home with another dog, preparing him for the transition to his forever home.
He quickly came out of his shell and showed us his movie star personality! shortly after he met his forever parent's.
Billy is a very well-loved integral family member. He even has a canine rescue sister for company in his lovely home alongside his mum and dad.
For ten miserable years Bruno had never stepped foot inside a house. He survived all this time living in a back yard in South Auckland.
A very kind individual saw Brunos suffering and visited Bruno every day for two years and was eventually able to gain relinquishment.
Without the perseverance of this individual Bruno may have never had the chance to experience the life he should have had.
Bruno has found his forever home and is happily taking everything in his stride. Huge appreciation to his forever family. Bruno is finally "living the dream"
Fatty - Now Rocky was chained as a puppy and destined to spend his life on the chain.
Unfortunately Rocky was hit by a vehicle in August 2024, no bones were broken but the cost of the veterinary care caused his owners to relinquish him.
Rocky recently had his first summer holiday away with his forever family and has enjoyed every moment.
We are so happy for you Rocky, enjoy your freedom!
George was not life chained but abandoned and locked inside a garage and left for dead. A contractor found George a week later and contacted us.
Gorgeous "Boy George" was cared for by an amazing foster home soon after his plea was shared on Facebook.
George has now found his forever home with a loving canine companion
Despite everything George has gone through he has defied being a statistic and is living the life he deserves as a well-loved family member.
Vida narrowly escaped being a life chained statistic. A very kind after hours vet contacted Chained Dog Awareness NZ asking for help.
Vida would have been another annual statistic. Vida was placed in a loving foster home with other canine siblings.
This led to Vida finding her forever home. Her foster family helped her prepare for the transition.
Vida, like many of our dogs is where she should be and is living the life she truly deserves.
Luna and her sister Lola somehow survived for nearly two years chained on a South Auckland property.
Luna had two litters on the chain before she was relinquished, she had Mutiple health issues and was learning her manners with other animals.
Luna has just had her first Christmas off the chain. Her Christmas wish of a forever home coming true.
Luna is now in her forever home and will never have to have another litter on the chain. We wish you a happy life Luna!!
Our gorgeous seniors Lushyn & Simba who were chained as puppies and left on the chain.
Our volunteers regularly walked, filled water bowls and offered comfort. Both dogs were rehomed over five years ago to the most incredible dad.
A very kind neighbour yelled out when their dad passed and looking after them in the interim.
Lushyn and Simba have since found love with another incredible family! Our two seniors have a feline friend and are loving life!
Benji - For the first four years of his life Benji was caged/life contained. When he was finally rescued he had virtually no hair left due to his cruel living conditions and stress.
For the first month Benji was "slurry fed" as he had no interest in food. His first smile happened after five months, he knew he was safe and never looked back.
Benji lived his best life for the next 12 years, he went on many road trips, rescues and was a constant support. Benji accepted all dogs/humans/cats and his mum was his world.
Benji passed away recently at 16 years of age from vestibular neurotic disease. He received the best care available and was so loved until the very end, Benji is dearly missed.
Harley was life chained as a puppy and was thankfully relinquished at a year old. Harley had accepted his fate and was in survival mode.
Harley - Now renamed Bonze was adopted by an incredibly family.
His forever family fell in love with Bonze and the whole family flew to Auckland to collect him.
Bonze is now living his best life as he should! His family have given him love and happiness, we wish Bonze and his family all the best.
Buck was a second life chained dog on the same property as a dog we gained relinquishment for, we continued to care
